There are two of us, always. The one we let the world see. And the one who speaks only to our true selves. The one who listens and believes, because when we hear something often enough, we begin to believe it. That inner self is innocent, susceptible not only to what the outside world tells us, but also what we tell our selves. So tell yourself, "You are loved. You are worthy of love." And when you hear it often enough, you will begin to believe it. And then, maybe, it is just possible, you will take the goddamn point back. And if you do, then the outside world will begin to believe it as well.
If your team mate flings a potato five feet short of the cochonnet, slaps his hand to his forehead and throws his remaining boule to the ground. Go. Stand next to him and let him know that we are in this thing together. And together we will find a way to go on. That laughing, cursing, fanny or triumphant, high five or elbow bump, we fight the good fight because that is the petanque way.
Fais-moi plaisir
