Days of Petanque: February 4 2020

Date: February 4, 2020 at 6:47:25 PM PST

While Winter may rake the nation with ice and snow, she hath no dominion over Depot Park Petanque Terrain.

Maggie Lane is back and as feisty as ever. Also Jean-Michel is pointing (out how well he is doing) again after surgery.

The women of VOMPC take a back seat to no one. They were out in force today and giving us all "what for".

Match of the day was between Higgins and some dude who refused to show his face.

You win a few, you lose a few. Some get rained out. But you got to dress for all of them. —Satchel Paige

I'm driving down Highway 12 towards Sonoma at twilight
listening to Between the Lines by The Autumn Leaf,
shuffling through memories instead of watching out for lane drift.

You rise above the double yellow line like Minerva,
in full regalia, Tilly hat, puffy coat, sunglasses,
circle in one hand, measuring stick in the other.

"Wake up," you say. "You have another match to play."
The rumble strip jerks my attention back
I correct to my lane as the refrain plays.

Is that Born to Boule by Springsteen
or Bad to the Boule by Thorogood?
Don't know but I live to play another day.

Take care to live to play another day
and know we miss you when you're not there.

You know, I wouldn't blame you if you wanted off this list. Let me know and I will efface all trace that you ever graced this humble assemblage of some of the finest people I've ever known. It may be that you don't think you qualify for the list. Maybe you don't want to be associated with such boulish people. Maybe you've been number seven one more time than you can take. If that's the reason remember what Jean-Paul Sartre said: "Three o'clock is always too late or too early for anything you want to do."
